Christmas has come and gone and we are now in 2025. It’s the perfect time for us to set ourselves new goals, embrace healthy habits and make changes that are sustainable. 1. Be Realistic with your New Year Keto Plan and Goals!

Let's be honest with ourselves and be realistic. I think it’s safe to say, we have all set goals for ourselves in the New Year but they just aren't realistic and that is for many reasons. The best way to start out on your journey is to understand “why” your starting keto. Is it for weight loss, increasing energy or improving your overall health? Maybe it's all of these, but be honest with yourself. What is your main objective? Start by setting achievable goals, break it down. 

Maybe for example you want to lose “5 pounds in 4 weeks” or “meal prep every Sunday”. Breaking it down in manageable ways will keep you motivated and realistic without feeling overwhelmed!

2. Understand the Basics

A keto diet is a diet that gets your body into a state of ketosis, where it burns fats instead of carbohydrates as a source of fuel.

It is known for having very low levels of carbs, adequate amounts of protein, whilst sourcing most of your daily calories from fat.

  • High Fat (70-75%)

  • Protein (20-25%)

  • Low Carb (5-10%) 20-50g of carbs daily

3. Keto Meal Prep!

This one was super helpful for me personally. Plan your meal and prepare them in advance. I know life can be busy, I understand, with kids and work it can be full on. But if you meal prep, it's such a game-changer. Cook meals in batches such as a keto casserole or make yourself snacks, like fat bombs. Here's a great recipe: 


Save yourself time during those busy weeks by getting ahead.  Snacks like cheese sticks or boiled eggs (quick and filling!) to prevent those cravings.

4. Stock The Kitchen Cupboards with Keto Staples

This is key to success in the New Year. Fill your cupboards with keto staples:

  • Almond and Coconut flour

  • Keto friendly oils (coconut, avocado or olive oil)

Having these in your cupboards will help you stick to your keto diet, making it much easier to stick to your goals and achieving them!

Have you heard about “keto flu”? Yep, it's a thing when starting keto. It's your body switching from burning carbs/sugar into burning fat. It can lead to temporary water and electrolyte imbalance so here's how to combat it:

  • Drink water and plenty of it.

  • Adding electrolytes like good quality salt (not table salt it’s full of additives) potassium and magnesium. Bone broth is so good!

7. Track but Don't Obsess

There are many apps you can use to help you track your progress such as MyFitnessPal to monitor your macros, but don’t stress about it being perfect. Take it one day at a time. Progress matters more than perfection!
